Middlesex County Bar Association Names Its First African-American President

MIDDLESEX COUNTY — Renèe Anthony, Esq., a sole practitioner in New Brunswick, was installed as the Middlesex County Bar Association’s (MCBA) 98th President on Wednesday, May 9, at The Addison Park in Aberdeen. Anthony is the Association’s first African American President and the third ever among the state and county bar associations.

Other Officers of the Bar Association sworn in on May 9th included:

Tara Auciello, President-Elect – sole practitioner, New Brunswick
Ellen F. Schwartz, 1st Vice President – Ramatowski Spilka & Schwartz, East Brunswick
Craig M. Aronow, 2nd Vice President – Rebenack Aronow & Mascolo, LLP, New Brunswick
Andrea J. Sullivan, Treasurer – Greenbaum Rowe Smith & Davis, LLP, Woodbridge
William Isele, Secretary – Archer Greiner, Princeton

Admitted to the New Jersey State and Federal Bar in 1997, Ms. Anthony has been a sole practitioner for over fourteen years concentrating in Criminal, Family, Municipal, Real Estate and Chancery Practice. She also does binding arbitration for the Federal Government and several local and national Unions, and was Public Defender for Piscataway Township from 2005- 2009.

Anthony is also a member of the American Bar Association, National Bar Association and New Jersey State Bar Association.

In her spare time, Anthony serves as Secretary on the Executive Board of Trustees for Central Jersey Legal Services; she is a Board member of the Middlesex County Bar Foundation, a panelist for the Middlesex County Matrimonial Early Settlement Program, a civil arbitrator, a foreclosure mediator, as well as a Judicial Volunteer for Middlesex Vicinage. Renée is a member of the MCBA’s Judicial and Prosecutorial Appointments Committee, has served as Chair of the District VIII Ethics Committee, and was an active member of the Family Law Executive Committee for the New Jersey State Bar Association.

In October 2010, Anthony was honored by the NAACP with the Johnnie Cochran Legal Award.
