Altercation Leads To Juvenile Detention Van Crash

LINDEN – An altercation inside a van transporting juveniles to a detention facility caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle yesterday, resulting in minor injuries to the juvenile officers and detainees, authorities said.

The county officer was driving to a juvenile detention facility on Edward Street in Linden with his partner and five juvenile detainees. An altercation between the officer and a 17-year-old detainee caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle and strike a fence on the property of Buckeye Pipeline on Lower Road.

Linden Police Officer Roshon Elias spotted the van at 1:21 p.m. and helped the county officer secure the juvenile with handcuffs.

Everyone in the van was taken to Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth for treatment of undisclosed minor injuries, according to Linden police.
