METUCHEN — Cablevision’s education arm, Power to Learn, sponsors an annual Charity Champions challenge to encourage students to “make a difference.” This year Charity Champions are students from Metuchen High School under the direction of social studies teacher Evan Robbins. Their project, Breaking the Chain Through Education, works to end the cycle of children enslavement in Ghana. Trent Anderson from Cablevision, presented Mr. Robbins and his students a check for $5000 at an assembly program on Tuesday, May 15th. Metuchen High School principal, Bruce Peragallo, served as the master of ceremonies for this program, which included student testimonials, student dances, and student songs. Special guests at the event included former Governor James Florio, current District 18 Assemblymen Patrick Diegnan and Peter Barnes, Metuchen Mayor Thomas Vahalla and Superintendent of Schools, Vincent Caputo.
