PERTH AMBOY – Police arrested a 47-year-old Perth Amboy man Monday for aggravated assault and attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a woman in a domestic dispute, authorities said.

Police were able to recover the knife they believe was used in the assault after arresting Justino Gutierrez, according to Perth Amboy Police Captain Luis G. Guzman, Jr.

Police were dispatched to an address on the 200 block of Market Street at 10:31 p.m. on May 7 to investigate a report of a stabbing. Officers found victim laying on the floor in the front doorway, with multiple stab wounds to her cheek, throat, and wrist. The victim was taken by medivac helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, where she was being treated and reported in stable condition on Tuesday morning, according to Guzman.

The charges against Gutierrez are merely accusations; he is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
