METUCHEN — During the week of April 30, the seventh grade class at Edgar Middle School participated in a series of lessons and activities to prepare them for a field trip to the Philadelphia Zoo. The lessons had three primary goals: the development of communication skills, an awareness of the need to conserve water, and the importance of protecting animals and their natural habitats. Some of the activities included creating and using a nature journal, calculating their own water usage, observation of animals, collaborative problem solving, team building activities, and water analysis. A guest speaker, a Metuchen alumna, presented information on an environmental case study in Costa Rica. (Photo courtesy of Metuchen Public Schools)
