RAHWAY– This Saturday, May 5, the Rahway Chamber of Commerce will host the inaugural Rahway Day. The celebration will take place between 10 a.m.-2 p.m., rain or shine, at the Rahway Public Library, Two City Hall Plaza, and include fun activities, live entertainment, children’s Moonbounce, and tabling from local businesses and organizations.

A highlight of the day will be the second annual Race Around Rahway, beginning at 11 a.m., hosted by the Friends of the Rahway Library. The scavenger hunt style race will challenge participants to solve clues and complete tasks as they travel through Rahway’s downtown and arts districts.

“The purpose of Rahway Day is to showcase all that our community has to offer to residents and businesses while at the same time welcoming new comers to our town,” said Bob Markey, president of the Rahway Chamber of Commerce. “The overall theme of our celebration is ‘Think Rahway First’, a reminder to residents of the wonderful businesses and services that are offered in our own backyards. The atmosphere will be festive and there will be activities and fun things to do for all ages.”

More than 40 businesses and organizations have signed on to set up information tables or provide free services to the community. The Rahway Branch YMCA will host a free Zumba class at noon and NY Life Insurance Co. will provide free Child ID’s all day. The Rahway Branch NAACP will offer voter registration. There will also be a free Moonbouce for children sponsored by PayChex Payroll Services.

Throughout the day there will also be plenty of live entertainment with performances by Rahway Blues legend Junior Mack, Broadway tap dance star Maurice Chestnut (who appeared on Dancing With The Stars), jazz duet Karickter, male a cappella group The Jerseyaires, Rahway Dance Theater, and more.

Admission to Rahway Day is free and open to the public. Volunteers are needed. A donation will be made to the Friends of the Rahway Library from the proceeds of the tabling fees and 50/50 raffle. Tables may be available for day-of registration. For more information visit http://rahwaychamberofcommerce.com or email rahwayday@rahwaychamberofcommerce.com.
