PERTH AMBOY — On Friday, the Perth Amboy Police Special Investigations Bureau and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force arrested Carteret resident Aura Y. Diaz, 30 with the assistance of the Carteret Police Department and charged her with possession of cocaine.
Diaz was operating a green colored 1998 Toyota Camry when she was stopped by police. Police found Diaz in possession of approximately 62 grams of cocaine, with an approximate street value of $6,200 along with $187 in cash, according to Benjamin Ruiz, acting chief of the Perth Amboy Police Department. The investigating officers recovered an additional $1,700 in cash, a digital scale and narcotics paraphernalia after conducting a consent search of Diaz’s apartment, authorities said.
Diaz was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine over 1/2 ounce with the intent to distribute (a second degree offense), possession with intent within 1000 feet of a school zone, possession with intent within 500 feet of a public housing complex and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. Judge Allen Comba set bail at $25,000, with no 10% option.
This investigation was lead by Detective Sergeant Carmelo Jimenez Jr.
The charges against Diaz are merely accusations; she is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
