EDISON — Jessica Clarke of Scotch Plains, a senior at The Wardlaw-Hartridge School in Edison, was honored with “The Caring Award” by the Middlesex County Guidance Council at the 25th Annual Recognition Program on April 19 at Middlesex County College. She received this honor in recognition of outstanding service to our communities and those in need with no desire or anticipation of recognition.

Clarke founded the “Sunday Sandwiches” charity, which serves 45-60 needy people in Elizabeth on the first Sunday of every month. She leads a group of teens and their parents and solicits donations of food and money for this group

Her good deeds have not gone unnoticed by the W-H Alumni Association. Karen Leach, Alumni Board president, felt compelled to make a donation to the charity. Leach attended Morning Meeting on April 25 to present a check to Clarke.

“Working in Newark and seeing things that most of us don’t really know about, I had to ask fellow board members to come together and make a donation to support Jessica’s program. It is so important to give back and help those in need,” Leach said.
