WATCHUNG – Mount Saint Mary Academy swimmer Cassandra Sosnovich of Woodbridge formally signed her college letter of intent in a special ceremony on the Mount campus on April 24. Sosnovich will attend the University of Massachusetts in the fall.
“The Mount prepared me well,” said Sosnovich. “It gave me a sense of goals and discipline that helped me to be successful. I really love our team here. We always had so much spirit.”
As a member of the Mount swim team, Sosnovich set numerous school records, including those in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. She served as the anchor on the record-breaking 200 medley relay team, which earned first place at last year’s Meet of Champions, and the 400 freestyle relay team that broke the record this past season.
“There was such a difference in Cassie from her freshman year to her senior year,” said Mount swim coach Kevin Mahoney. “She went from simply being a member of the team to having her name on the record board. It really shows how hard she worked in four years.”
Sosnovich was recently named First Team All-Somerset and Third Team All-Non-Public for the 2011-2012 season. She plans to major in Accounting and Sports Management while in college.
“I was really impressed with the coach [at the University of Massachusetts] and the camaraderie of the team,” said Sosnovich. “I hope to have much success there athletically and academically.”
Mount Saint Mary Academy is a Catholic, independent school which provides a college preparatory education for young women in grades 9 through 12.
