RAHWAY—The “Race Around Rahway” will take place on Saturday, May 5, beginning at the Rahway Public Library and continuing around the downtown area. The event, similar to television’s “Amazing Race,” pits teams of contestants against each other in a search for items hidden around the downtown area. Each team must solve the nine clues, gather needed items from various locations, and return to the starting point before any of the others.
Teams are encouraged to dress in costume, and some clues may require the use of a smart phone and/or a digital camera. Because it is a race, enjoyment of physical activity is necessary, but cut-throat competition is not the point.
“We believe the race provides entertainment that the whole family can enjoy,” said race director Eric Miles. “Some clues will be easy, while others will present more of challenge. Having all team members work together to solve them is a big part of the fun.”
“Last year, nearly 20 teams took part, and in addition to families, colleagues from work also put together teams to compete,” noted Miles. “It’s a great way to build morale among employees.”
Teams can have a minimum of two and a maximum of four members, and at least one must be 18 years old. The cost is $6 per team member.
To register for the race, e-mail RaceAroundRahway@gmail.com, call 1-848-628-4450, or pick up a registration/waiver form at the Library’s reference desk. Although registration can be done on the day of the race, pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Additional race information will be provided on the race’s Facebook page (Rahway Race) in the weeks leading up to May 5.
The race begins at 11 a.m., with day-of-race registration beginning at 9:30 a.m.. The race should last approximately two hours. Before race day, registration forms can be mailed to “Friends of Rahway Library, c/o Rahway Public Library, 2 City Hall Plaza, Rahway, NJ 07065.” Checks should be payable to “Friends of the Rahway Public Library.”
The Race Around Rahway will be held as part of Rahway Community Day, a community awareness-raising event that will bring together businesses, houses of worship, schools, and nonprofits to demonstrate the vitality and features of the city of Rahway. Community Day will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Library, rain or shine.
The Friends of the Rahway Public Library is a volunteer 501(c)(3) organization that serves to support the library through fundraising and volunteer activities.
