WESTFIELD – The Raritan Valley Chapter invites high school age students in Union County to join the Youth Council and be difference makers in the community.
Youth Council members tackle important Red Cross projects within the community. These projects can include organizing and working at blood drives, inputting satisfaction surveys onto the web site, calling inactive volunteers to update the database and helping out at community events.
Through monthly meetings, the Youth Council provides interesting guest speakers and a real-life opportunity to develop group and individual leadership skills.
Senior staff works alongside youth volunteers to help them reach their full potential and build connections among volunteers of all ages. Suzanne Anderson, Regional Coordinator of Volunteer and Youth services, said that involvement in Youth Council strengthens the relationship between young volunteers and the organization. “Youth are the future of the Red Cross, and with leadership training we are preparing our future volunteers.”
Meetings are scheduled for the fourth Tuesday of every month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at 321 Elm Street, Westfield. The next meeting is set for April 24. For more information, contact Suzanne Anderson at 1-908-232-7090 ext. 2019.
