Health Fair, Cooking Demos And More Planned For Saturday

SCOTCH PLAINS — Health screenings, cooking demonstrations, fitness demonstrations, reiki and activities for children will be offered at the community at the Community Health Fair, Saturday, April 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the RWJ Rahway Fitness & Wellness Center, 2120 Lamberts Mill Road, Scotch Plains.

The fair is free and open to the public.

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway will be performing free glucose, cholesterol, cataract, pulmonary function, postural analysis, foot screenings, oral cancer, reiki demonstrations, and blood pressure screenings. Information will be available on diabetes and weight loss, sleep disorders and joint and wound care. Fitness center nurses will be taking body fat and the trainers will be conducting free Functional Movement Screenings.

The event features The Biggest Loser’s Jay and Jen Jacobs (Season 11) who will be doing a cooking demo and book signing. Also, there will be an autograph session with former New York Giants Bart Oates and Stephen Baker.

The group fitness department will be doing a showcase of classes the center runs on a daily basis. The classes are for all abilities and ages. Special children’s classes will also be held at select times throughout the day.

Local restaurants will be holding food tastings. Sample food from Gennaro’s, Café Gallo, Bovella’s, Xocolatz and Muscle Makers Grill. In addition the Fun Bus will be on site along with other vendors from the area.

The Health Fair is a great place to bring the whole family. The day will be filled with scuba lessons, Small Group Training, Kinesis Training, cooking demos, swim lessons, face painting, tattoos, crafts, games and prizes.
