To End Hunger, Roselle Park Proclaims April 28 “Crop Hunger Walk Day”

ROSELLE PARK – At the Feb. 16 council meeting, Roselle Park declared April 28, 2012 as “Crop Hunger Walk Day”. On that day, Roselle Park and Roselle will join together with other nearby communities to walk for hunger. An annual event, this year’s walk theme is “Ending Hunger One Step At a Time”.

Crop Hunger Walk is a community fundraising event sponsored by Church World Service (CWS),, an international relief, development, and refugee resettlement agency. Money raised by CROP Hunger Walks nationwide is used by CWS to provide food, medical care, disaster relief, and self-help development for needy people around the world. Up to 25% of the money raised in this Crop Hunger Walk will be distributed to local hunger-alleviating agencies in the area where the Walk occurs. These are the agencies chosen by the local CROP Hunger Walk Planning Team to receive funds this year.

Hunger in the United States affects over 50.2 million people. The working poor are experiencing food insecurity, the condition of not knowing where one’s next meal is coming from, at greater numbers since monitoring began in 1995. 17.2 million children in our country don’t get enough healthy food to eat. 5.6 million households relied on a food pantry or soup kitchen one or more times in 2009.

This year’s goal is to raise $6000. To participate in this year’s Saturday 28, 2012 Crop Walk Hunger as a walker, sponsor a walker or donate, visit:
