METUCHEN — The Metuchen High School senior class took part in the sixth annual Senior Seminar, a workshop designed to help them with life after high school. It had all the elements of a real-life workshop including a bagel breakfast, keynote speaker and break-out sessions.
The keynote, Dr. Rob Gilbert from Montclair State University, is a professor of recreation therapy and a well-known sports psychologist and motivational speaker. He set the tone in a humorous way, yet helped all members of the audience understand the importance of succeeding in the future. Dr. Gilbert also ran one of the break-out groups.
David McVicker, Vice President of Primerica, spoke to the seniors about money management, debt control, and the Rule of 72. Mr. McVicker has been in the financial industry for over 15 years, owns two offices in the area and is the parent of a Metuchen High School senior.
Patrolman Jim Keane, of the Metuchen Police Department, has been a police officer for 10 years, is a DARE officer and has extensive experience working with juveniles. His session was entitled “From Mischief to Misdemeanor” and the goal today was to impress upon audience the difference in the law from age 17 to age 18. This session was a real eye-opener for many of the students.
