JERSEY CITY — Spirit Awards, the highest non-academic honor a student at Saint Peter’s Prep can receive, were presented to six seniors following an Ash Wednesday prayer service, continuing a 30-year Prep tradition of recognizing the unsung heroes of the school community. The first Prep Spirit Awards were presented in November 1981 when the late Fr. John Browning, then principal of Saint Peter’s, began this tradition. Among the six is Robert Butko of Summit. Butko is the son of Sheila and Dan Butko. Pictured are, l. to r., Robert E. Reiser, SJ, President, Butko, Mary Durante, Vice President for Academics, and Ryan Heffernan, Dean of Student Life.
