RAHWAY — Franklin School honored school nurse Barbara Maher by awarding her “Staff Member of the Year.” According to school officials, not only is she a nurturing and exceptional nurse, but she is also a valuable team player at Franklin School. She organizes various training opportunities for staff. She conducts health and environmental preservation lessons with students throughout the year. She organizes and manages all the service projects that our school conducts with the community, such as “Lions Recycle for Sight,” “Jeans for Teens,” “Pennies for Patients,” and “Mugs of Love.” She promotes and facilitates all student poster contests, such as “Bicycle and Helmet Safety,” “Drug Awareness,” and “Dental Health Awareness.”
Maher has also begun a collection for bottle tops of Coca-Cola Products. As the students collect an increasing number of bottle tops, Franklin School is rewarded with an item or additional resource to be used in our school. In addition, she is a member of our Sunshine Committee at school and helps organize events for staff recognition and congratulations, as well as quarterly staff breakfast gatherings.
Maher assists families with finding medical insurance and dealing with individual medical concerns and issues, including but not limited to, “Sight for Students.” She also collects food and clothing for families in need.
