FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP – Two Middlesex County men were arrested Friday on charges related to the illegal distribution of prescription drugs, officials announced.
Dhavalkum Thakkar, 27, of Edison and Mrunac Joshi, 22, of North Brunswick were arrested on March 30, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of Detectives Stuart Buckman and Franklin Township Chief of Police Lawrence Roberts.
Thakkar was charged with possession of prescription legend drugs with intent to distribute, 2nd degree, and Joshi was charged with conspiracy to distribute prescription legend drugs, 2nd degree.
According to Soriano, detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force and the Franklin Township Police Department observed Joshi and Thakkar negotiating the sale of Cialis pills in the area of Hamilton Street in Franklin Township. Task force detectives approached the suspects and detained them.
According to authorities, Thakkar voluntary gave consent to detectives to search his Honda Odyssey van. As a result of the search, 200 Cialis pills with an estimated street value of $1,000 were seized from the vehicle, officials said.
Both defendants were lodged in the Somerset County Jail with bail set by Judge Paul W. Armstrong, J.S.C., at 75,000.00 cash or bond.
The charges are merely accusations and the suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
