Holy Week And Easter Services Offered At Calvary Lutheran Church

CRANFORD — The solemn season of Lent draws to a close and the joyous celebration of Easter begins in worship services at Calvary Lutheran Church, 108 Eastman Street, Cranford next week.

The public is invited to all services.

Palm Sunday Services of Holy Communion on April 1 at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. will mark the beginning of Holy Week. Commemorating Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, these worship services also will offer meditation on Jesus’ passion and death. Seasonal music presented by Calvary’s adult and youth choirs will be accompanied by organ, piano and trumpet.

Maundy Thursday services will be offered at 1:15 and 7:30 p.m. on April 5. These worship services will feature absolution and Holy Communion. The evening service also will include the stripping of the altar in preparation for Good Friday. Seasonal music will be accompanied by organ and at the evening service, violin.

On Good Friday, April 6, the solemnity of the day will be observed at 7:30 p.m. with a Tenebrae Service of shadows and darkness. Music will be provided by the church’s Calvary Choir and Bell Choir, with organ and flute accompaniment.

The joyous observance of Easter arrives on Sunday, April 8 with Festival Services of Holy Communion at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Each service will offer a full liturgy with instrumental and choral seasonal music and favorite Easter hymns accompanied by organ, piano, trumpet and flute. Calvary’s Adult and Hand Bell Choirs will lead music.

The Rev. Carol A. Lindsay, Calvary’s pastor, will lead all worship services. Music will be under the leadership of Jeanne Elmuccio, Calvary’s director of music and organist.

Calvary Lutheran Church is a member congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America serving the Cranford-Westfield area and surrounding communities for 82 years.
