LINDEN – Police arrested a 37-year-old Rahway man who allegedly burglarized a condominium on West Munsell Avenue in Linden Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Hugh H. Jeter was charged with burglary and taken to the Union County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.

At 11:15 a.m. on March 28, Linden police officers responded to a reported burglary at a condominium complex on the 300 block of West Munsell Avenue. A 54-year-old woman told police that she stopped home to check on her pet cat, when she saw a man walking out of her apartment. He told her “good morning” before she noticed that her door was unlocked and had pry marks, according to police. When she went inside, the victim discovered that some dresser drawers had been removed in her bedroom.

The woman called 9-1-1 and gave a description of the burglar to police. Officer Angel Padilla was on patrol in the area and saw a suspect matching the description enter Wheeler Park. He stopped the man, who was placed under arrest after being identified by the victim.

As in all criminal cases, the charges against Jeter are merely accusation; he is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
