22nd Annual Pro-Celebrity Golf Registration Remains Open

BRIDGEWATER – The Somerset County Park Foundation has announced that a limited number of foursome and individual player spots remain open for the 22nd Annual “Raymond L. Hughes Memorial Pro-Celebrity Golf Tournament” scheduled for Monday, May 7, at Neshanic Valley Golf Course on South Branch Road in Neshanic Station. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with lunch served. Tee off is scheduled for 12:15 p.m.

Individuals and corporate teams are invited to register at any of the five Somerset County Golf Courses, Green Knoll on Garretson Road in Bridgewater; Spooky Brook at Colonial Park in Somerset; Quail Brook on New Brunswick Road in Somerset; Warrenbrook on Warrenville Road in Warren, and Neshanic Valley on South Branch Road in Neshanic Station.

The Pro-Celebrity is played with groups of five golfers, a celebrity joining each foursome. Among the nearly three dozen early commitments for the 2012 event are Major League Baseball stars Doc Gooden, Gary Sheffield, Goose Gossage, Dave Parker, Art Shamsky, John Montefusco, Larry Bowa, Graig Nettles, Mitch Williams, Tommy John, and Rick Cerone; National Football League stars Bill Ard, Bart Oates, Marty Lyons, Jim Leonhard, OJ Anderson, and Shaun O’Hara; National Hockey League star Ken Daneyko, Bernie Parent; and Dave Schultz; boxers Gerry Cooney and Michael Spinks; former NY Knick John Starks and many more.

The Pro/Celebrity tournament has raised nearly $1,000,000 for the Somerset County Park Foundation, supporting a variety of Park Commission programs with a majority of funding dedicated to the Therapeutic Recreation Department. Scholarships to Camp Okee Sunokee, a six-week summer day camp structured for children ages 6 through 13 who are classified with a learning disability or Asperges Syndrome, has historically been a primary beneficiary of the outing. Funds are also applied to park and recreation projects that may not otherwise be possible to fund without the support of the Pro-Celebrity event.

“The Pro/Celebrity tournament has grown every year, among the professional athletes and the individuals and business people who look forward to the opportunity to meet their sports heroes,” stated Park Foundation Trustee and Event Chairman John Kitchen. “It’s a great day at a world-class golf course meeting and playing golf with world-class professional athletes.”

The event includes lunch, golf with one of the athletes, refreshments on the course, and the awards banquet. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. Registration is on a first-come basis with a deadline of Friday, April 27. Pre-tournament registration is required, no registrants on day of tournament. Registration forms are available at all county golf courses, online at www.somersetcountyparks.org or by calling 1-908-369-1458, ext. 428.
