NJCU Softball Earns Split With Baruch

JERSEY CITY – Sophomore second baseman Janissa Cardona (Elizabeth) went 1-for-3 and drove in a run as the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights lost the first game of a non-conference doubleheader from visiting Baruch College on Thursday by the score of 6-2.

Senior center fielder Stephanie Gomez (South Plainfield /Belleville) had half of NJCU’s four hits in the opener, going 2-for-3 with two steals and one run.

Baruch junior right-handed pitcher Nicole Flint (Brentwood, N.Y.) pitched seven innings in the win, allowing four hits and two unearned runs while striking out seven batters. Offensively, she was 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

NJCU came back to win the second game of the doubleheader 9-0 behind the strong pitching of senior right-hander Jess Mucerino (Whippany /Whippany Park), who fired a one-hit shutout and batted 2-for-4 with two runs scored

NJCU will travel to Hoboken on Saturday, March 24 for a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Stevens Institute of Technology.
