RAHWAY — Rahway Middle School students in Ms. DiMatteo’s Writing for Life classes engaged in a lively debate. As part of their persuasive writing unit, these sixth grade students prepared persuasive arguments on various topics for their formal debates. The debates were organized with one student serving as the moderator/facilitator, two students presenting on the ‘pro’ side of the debate and two others on the ‘con’ side. The debates began with the moderator introducing the topic and the panel. After each side stood and stated their position, the two sides dialogued back-and-forth with each side making a point, then a counter-point. After each side presented, the class debated on which side was the most convincing or persuasive.
