PERTH AMBOY – On Saturday, Woodbridge and Perth Amboy police conducting a joint investigation arrested a 22-year-old Mount Laurel resident who allegedly robbed a Convery Boulevard store and another store in Woodbridge Center shopping mall last week.
On March 17, Perth Amboy police Detective Jessica DeJesus arrested Kevin Bello for allegedly robbing Game Stop, 365 Convery Boulevard, on Wednesday, March 14.
According to police, Bello went into the store and began browsing for a few minutes. He then said that he wanted to buy a PlayStation 3 and XBOX system. The manager went to the back to retrieve the merchandise. Bello allegedly pointed a handgun at the manager and told the manager to scan the items as if he were buying them. Bello allegedly also demanded all the money in the cash register.
The manager placed the video game systems, valued at $250 each, inside two white Game Stop bags and turned over $672 in cash that was in the register. The manager immediately called the police after the robber left the store.
Bello was charged with robbery in the first degree, possession with a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and receiving stolen property. He was also charged with a robbery that occurred in Woodbridge at the Express Shop in Woodbridge Center mall prior to the robbery at the Game Stop, authorities said.
The Woodbridge Police Department executed a search warrant of Bello’s residence and recovered the proceeds from the Game Stop and a handgun, authorities said.
Judge Maria Del-Valle Koch set Bello’s bail at $200,000 with no 10 percent option.
The charges against Bello are merely accusations; he is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
