ELIZABETH — Victor M. Richel of Berkeley Heights is the newly-appointed Board Chair of Trinitas Regional Medical Center and Trinitas Health, its parent organization. The former Vice Chairman served during the recently-completed tenure of immediate past Chairperson Sr. Maureen Shaughnessy, SC. Taking over as new Vice-Chair is Sr. Rosemary Moynihan, SC, General Superior of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth based in Convent Station, New Jersey.
Continuing as Secretary of the Board is Sr. Edna Francis Hersinger, SC, also of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, and Thomas S. Kachelriess, President and Chief Executive Officer of Professional Appraisal Associates, based in Summit, New Jersey, as Board Treasurer.
Victor M. Richel is a banking executive, philanthropist and community volunteer serving many organizations in Central and Northern New Jersey. After making his mark in banking and utilities, he became involved at the board level in local organizations including Trinitas Regional Medical Center and Union County College. He and his wife Andrea head the Cranford-based Richel Family Foundation. In addition to his Board Chairmanship at Trinitas Regional Medical Center, Mr. Richel has served since 1995 as Chairman of Union County College and is a member of the Board of Governors at the College, as well as Chairman and President of the Friends of the Child Advocacy Center of Union County.
He is Treasurer and a Trustee of Elizabethtown Healthcare Foundation, Independence Community Foundation, as well as the Two Hundred Club of Union County and of Union County Crime Stoppers. Formerly, Richel served as a Trustee of the Garden State Cancer Center, Pace University’s Lubin School of Business, and St. Peter’s College Board of Regents. A Villanova University graduate, Mr. Richel also furthered his education at Columbia University and the Harvard Business School to attend marketing and executive development programs. A native of Elizabeth, Mr. Richel is a long-time resident of Berkeley Heights.
Sister Rosemary Therese Moynihan, SC, is the newly-elected General Superior of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth. From 1999 – 2007, she served as Councilor, on the Congregation’s Leadership Team. Her long career in health care and community mental health includes service at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey and as the Director of Ecology and Global Ministries for the Bon Secours Health System in Marriottsville, Maryland. Over the past four decades, she has held numerous leadership positions on the boards of healthcare and educational institutions in New York, New Jersey and Virginia. In addition to her Vice-Chairman post on the Trinitas Regional Medical Center and Trinitas Health Boards, Sr. Rosemary is the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Hospital of Saint Raphael, New Haven, Connecticut and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the College of Saint Elizabeth, Morristown. She also serves as a consultant to the St. Paul’s Mental Health Center in New York, New York.
Sister Rosemary holds an undergraduate degree in sociology from College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station, New Jersey, a Master’s degree, with Distinction, from the Columbia University School of Social Work and a PhD in clinical social work from New York University School of Social Work.
Sister Edna Francis Hersinger, SC, continues to serve as the Board’s Secretary, a post she has held since the creation of Trinitas Regional Medical Center in 2000 following the consolidation of Elizabeth General Medical Center and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. At that time, Sr. Edna initially served as the Treasurer of the Finance Committee of the new institution. Sister Edna Francis currently serves as Coordinator of Sister Volunteers for the religious order and is a member of the Seton Associate Team, advisory to the Director of the lay associates to the Sisters of Charity.
Sister Edna has served on numerous Boards including that of the YWCA in Orange, and as the Board Chair of Marylawn of the Oranges Academy in South Orange.
Sister Edna received her bachelor’s degree from the College of Saint Elizabeth and later was awarded a Master’s degree in the Classics from Fordham University, Bronx, New York and a second Master’s in Religious Education from the University of Detroit.
Thomas S. Kachelriess continues his Board responsibilities as Treasurer. He is President and Chief Executive Officer of Professional Appraisal Associates which specializes in all areas of residential real estate appraisals. His other association and board directorships include the New Jersey MBA’s appraisal committee, presidency of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers (1987 – 1988), the National Advisory Council for PHH Mortgage Services and Bank of New York Mortgage Company, Inc., and national review appraiser for Chase Manhattan Mortgage Corporation. He also serves on the Board of the Trinitas Health Foundation.
Kachelriess received his undergraduate degree in marketing from the University of Dayton.
