PERTH AMBOY – Tuesday morning, police arrested a 20-year-old city man who allegedly stole jewelry from a Stephen Avenue home.

Richard Saint Pierre-Suriel was charged with burglary, obstructing justice and resisting arrest following the March 13 incident. Judge Maria Del Valle Koch set bail at $25,000 with no 10 percent option.

Police were dispatched to a home on the 700 block of Stephen Avenue at 10:30 a.m. when an alarm on the back door went off. Officer Joseph Sulikowski saw that the chain link gate on the west side of the home and a rear sliding door were both open. He then spotted a suspect who came out the door and ran.

After a foot chase, Suriel was apprehended by Officers Arcadio Rivera and Sulikowski in the area of the 700 block of Chamberlain Avenue. Police recovered jewelry, which had been taken from the home.

The charges against Saint Pierre-Suriel are merely accusations; he is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
