RAHWAY — Winner of the Frinna Awerbuch International Piano Competition and the Pro-Piano Recital Series Audition, Sachiko Kato will premiere selections from her new CD, J.S. Bach Goldberg Variations, being released this summer by Centaur, on Saturday at in Rahway.

In addition to Bach Goldberg Variations, Kato will be performing Beethoven Sonata No. 30 in E-Major, Op. 109, and Brahms Klavierstucke Op. 119.
A champion of new music, Kato founded Weaving Japanese Sounds, a contemporary Japanese music concert project in 2004 in the hopes of facilitating cultural exchanges between the U.S. and Japan by introducing new Japanese music to American audiences in an accessible manner. The concerts are presented annually with a coterie of top-tier musicians and have been garnering critical acclaim and passionate followers.
Kato’s prior release to this one is a live recording of piano works of Japanese and American contemporary composers, entitled “Sachiko Kato: Live at the Phoenix Hall.”
Kato was born in Osaka, Japan and raised in Los Angels since the age of 14. She received her Bachelor’s degree from California State University and Master’s degree from the Juilliard School. Among her teachers are world-renowned pianist Russell Sherman and Jerome Lowenthal. She currently resides in New York City. For further information visit www.sachikokato.com.
