ELIZABETH — The Union County Homicide Task Force arrested a 23-year-old man last night and charged him with the March 7 murder of Elizabeth resident Jose R. Garcia, Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow announced.
Tyshon McNeil, 23, of Elizabeth, was identified as a confirmed Crip gang member, Hoover set, by the prosecutor’s office. He was being held at Union County Jail on $1 million bail.
Police were called to a gas station at the intersection of Pine and Third Street around 10 p.m. on March 7. There they discovered Garcia, 19, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to Trinitas Hospital where he underwent surgery. He died around 1:30 p.m. the following day. It was the third homicide in Elizabeth for 2012, according to the prosecutor’s office.
The arrest was the result of hard work done by Homicide Task Force Detective Carlos Rodriguez and Detectives Andy Dellaquila, Jim Szpond, and Tom Mikros of the Elizabeth Police Night Detective Squad, officials from the prosecutor’s office said.
These criminal charges are mere accusations; McNeil is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
