CLARK — Core Strength Training is a program that allows students at Arthur L. Johnson High School in Clark to understand the benefits and goals of resistance training. It introduces them to the proper techniques necessary to perform resistance training exercises while learning fitness center safety and procedures. Each student receives a weight training program customized to their current level of strength. Students are tested on their strength levels at the beginning and end of the program to assess their improvements.
The program applies to in season athletes or any student who is interested in increasing muscular strength, power, and endurance. Core Strength Training is built around five Core Exercises that focus on the large main muscle groups and a number of auxiliary exercises that focus on smaller support muscle groups. This program brings a different dynamic to Arthur L. Johnson’s Physical Education curriculum, improves athletic performance for student athletes, and gives students the knowledge to improve their health and wellness even after they graduate.
