NEWARK— The 2012 New Jersey Devils/New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association High School Ice Hockey Championships will take place with three games this Friday night, March 9 at Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center.
This marks the 15th year that the National Hockey League team has hosted the high school championships, and during that time the number of varsity high school ice hockey programs has increased from 80 to 171.
The three games are set as follows: Public B Championship (5:00 PM), Public A Final (7:00 PM), and Non-Public Championship (9:00 PM). Eighty schools, including 58 Public and 22 in the Non-Public bracket, are participating in this year’s tournament.
Kinnelon (Public B), Randolph (Public A), and Delbarton School (Non-Public) all entered the tournament as the no. 1 seed in their respective brackets. Last season, Chatham defeated Middletown South, 7-3, in the Public B School Championship; Randolph defeated Montgomery, 1-0, in the Public School A Final; while Delbarton School defeated St. Augustine Prep, 3-2 (OT), in the Non-Public School Championship.
Tickets are available at the Prudential Center box office and are priced at $10 for adults and $5 for students. The box office is open Monday-Saturday, 11:00 AM-6:00 PM, and through the second intermission of Devils’ home games.
