UNION — The Union Public Library and the Union Polish and Slavic Federal Credit Union are commemorating Revolutionary War Hero General Casimir Pulaski by holding an essay contest. This contest is open to all fifth grade students residing in the Township of Union.

Students are invited to write a 200- to 250- word essay on General Pulaski. The essay should include information about General Pulaski, especially his contribution to the Revolutionary War effort.

Essays will be judged on content, presentation, neatness, handwriting and spelling. The essay should be written on an 8 ½ x 11 ruled paper. Students should include their name, address, home telephone number and the school they attend. Cash awards of $40 for first place, $30 for second place, and $30 for third place will be given.

The essay contest begins on Monday, March 5 and ends on Saturday, March 24. The deadline for essay submission is Saturday, March 24. Essays may be turned in at the Children’s Circulation Desk, Union Public Library, 1980 Morris Avenue or the Vauxhall Branch Library Circulation Desk, 123 Hilton Avenue.

Winners will be announced on Thursday, April 5. An Awards Ceremony will be held at the Main Library on Wednesday, April 11 at 7 p.m. Winners will be asked to read their essay at the ceremony. All entries will be displayed at the Main Library and Vauxhall Branch.
