RWJ Rahway Foundation To Honor Hospital Board Member

RAHWAY — RWJ Rahway Foundation and the Rose Ball Committee announced that Larry Naldi, RWJ Rahway Board of Governors member and Senior Vice President Strategy & Integration at Merck & Co, Inc., is being inducted into the 2012 Guardians of the Rose.

The honors will be bestowed at the “The Rose Ball Gets Jazzed” to be held on Saturday evening, April 28. Reservations are $250 per person.

“The committee is turning back the clock to the days of F. Scott Fitzgerald and the Jazz Age in a beautiful and elegant setting at the gala’s new location, The Wilshire Grand in West Orange,” said Christine Kline, Rose Ball chairman.

Naldi is the 2012 recipient of the Guardians of the Rose for his long-time dedication, commitment and philanthropic support of RWJ Rahway. He joined the RWJ Rahway Board of Governors in 1997. He is the Co-Chair of the Continuous Quality Review (CQR) Committee, which he has served on for many years. This vital Committee provides oversight to assure that the hospital’s care and services meet standards for quality and safety.

Through the years, with the help of Naldi and other key leaders, a special partnership has been forged between RWJ Rahway and Merck & Co., Inc. In addition to providing his executive leadership and guidance, he has been instrumental in The Merck Company Foundation’s philanthropic support of more than one million dollars in the past decade to improve the health and wellness of the community.

Naldi joined Merck in 1973 in Rahway Technical Operations. Since that time, he has held positions of increasing responsibility in Technical Operations, Rahway Manufacturing and Corporate Environmental Control. He was promoted to Executive Director, Environmental & Safety Policy in 1993 and was appointed to Plant Manager for the Rahway research and manufacturing facility where he served through 2002. In 2003, Naldi was appointed to a newly-created position of Vice President

U.S. Chemical Operations and in 2005 was appointed to Vice President of US & EMEA Chemical Operations. In 2006 he was promoted to Senior Vice President of Science and Technology and in 2008 was appointed to his current position.

A true Guardian of the hospital, Naldi played a crucial role in both the Emergency Department expansion and, most recently, with the hospital’s new cardiovascular lab.

“The Rose Ball Committee is working hard planning a successful event, and is fortunate to have long-time Chairman, Christine Kline in the lead,” said Bunny Bowen, Foundation Chairperson and Rose Ball Committee member. Other committee members are Marguerite Bejgrowicz, Trustee; Michele Chen, Foundation Vice-Chairman; Roberta Geyer, Trustee; Joe Gibilisco, Trustee; Lillian Heide; Joan Katen; Rosanne Krewedl; Frank Light, M.D., Trustee; Foundation President, Marlene H. Lubinger; Mary Phillips, ConocoPhillips – Bayway Refinery; RWJ Rahway President & CEO, Kirk Tice; Maria Weinstein, Rahway Manager, Northfield Bank, Timothy Williams, Trustee, Elizabethtown Gas Company, and Maggie Zinno, ConocoPhillips – Bayway Refinery.

“What a winning combination — be a winner in a cash 50/50 raffle and know that you helped your community hospital as well,” said Kline. Only 1,000 tickets at $50 each will be sold. The ten winners will share 50% of the total amount received for all tickets sold.

Proceeds from the gala will benefit the programs and services of RWJ Rahway, to help the hospital fulfill its mission to provide the quality and safe healthcare services our patients need and deserve.
