RAHWAY — The second grade students at Franklin Elementary School in Rahway were in for a real treat when some important figures from throughout African-American history paid them a surprise visit. During the week of Feb. 13, a “living, breathing timeline” created by Laura Lopez’s third grade class, could be seen traveling into classrooms and through the halls of Franklin School. The class researched and wrote a brief synopsis on a prominent African American of their choice. The students then each wore a photo of their famous person around their necks and memorized their lines in order to “transform themselves” into that noteworthy figure. As the students made their way from class to class, they even had the opportunity to give Principal Arina Robinson, an impromptu presentation right in the hallway.
