PERTH AMBOY – Police responding to a report of a burglary in progress at a home on the 700 block of Columbus Drive Tuesday morning arrested three suspects.

Josue Miguel Valdez, 19, and Fernando Antonio Colon, 21, were charged with attempt to commit burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary. Their bail was set at $50,000 each, with no 10 percent option. Lesly Gamarra, 21, was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary and released on her own recognizance. All three suspects are from Perth Amboy.

Shortly before noon on Feb. 21, a witness called police after a young man rang the home’s doorbell several times before walking to the south side of the house. The suspect opened an unlocked rear screen door, but was stopped by another locked door before he could enter the home. The witness then saw the suspect make a call with his cell phone and walk back to the front of the house. The suspect got into a beige-colored vehicle that was occupied by another man and a woman.

Police Sergeant Andy Montalvo located a vehicle matching the description and detained the suspects for identification.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are merely accusations and the suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
