PERTH AMBOY – On Friday, Perth Amboy police announced the arrests of three city residents following a drug investigation that took place earlier this month.
On Friday, Feb. 3, at 1:35 p.m., members of the police department’s Special Investigations Bureau acted on a tip and conducted surveillance in the area of the 300 block of Barclay Street. Officers saw three individuals exit a residence, place a bag into the trunk of a parked car, and walk away. A short time later, they entered a nearby parked van to retrieve an item and then took the bag out of the car.
Police determined that the bag held 60 individual glassine envelopes containing a substance believed to be heroin and 1000 additional empty glassine envelopes. Additionally, $2,321 in cash was recovered from the individuals.
Luis Ramon Saez, 23, Joshua Ortiz-Arriaga, 21, and Luis Hiram Saez, 29, were arrested and charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of heroin with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public housing development and conspiracy to distribute heroin. Each suspect was also issued a summons for possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $75,000 cash only for Luis Ramon Saez and Luis Hiram Saez; Ortiz-Arriaga’s bail was set at $50,000.
According to Perth Amboy police, the total street value of the heroin seized is approximately $900. The New Jersey State Police K-9 Unit assisted with the investigation.
The charges against the suspects are merely accusations; they are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
