Rahway Third Graders Learn About Underground Railroad

RAHWAY — In honor of Black History month, students in Ms. Cianchetta’s third grade class at Franklin School in Rahway were able to learn what life was like for a slave traveling on the Underground Railroad through an interactive online journey.  Students ‘met’ Harriet Tubman and stayed in “safe houses” during their experience.  At the conclusion of the activity, they reached the north and were ‘free’, after following the “drinking gourd.”  This webquest helped them better understand the experience of slaves in the 1850s.
