Perth Amboy Police Blotter: Teen Charged In Strong Arm Robbery

All suspected arrested and charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Feb. 11 at 1:58 a.m. – Officers D. Gonzalez and J. Sassine encountered an injured man near the entrance of the Salvation Army on State Street. The man was the victim of a robbery; his cell phone and wallet, which held his bank card and approximately $40 cash were taken. Police searched the area for suspects, and Officers F. Hernandez and M. Bucior arrested city resident Kelvin Almonte, 19, who was charged with robbery and possession of marijuana. Bail was set by Judge Emery Toth at $15,000 with no 10% option. The victim was treated at Raritan Bay Medical Center for his injuries.

Feb. 13 at 11:16 a.m. – Officers investigated a burglary reported at a residence on the 600 block of Franklin Drive. The victim heard someone upstairs in her home when she returned from shopping. The suspect fled the home and ran west on Franklin Drive. The victim told police that she punched the subject in the arm as he ran past her. Some jewelry and change was missing from dressers in two second floor bedrooms, the victim told police. Police said the suspect is a Hispanic or white male around six feet tall, thin build. He was wearing a blue colored coat with white or grey colored sweatpants and a black wool hat.
