SCOTCH PLAINS — On Friday, Feb. 3, Union Catholic High School gave students a free dress-down day to celebrate the weekend’s highly-anticipated football playoff game under one condition—they had to bring in at least one can of soup. The idea behind the themed tag day was presented to the administration by sophomore Allison Colombo of Colonia and executed by the school’s Student Council. By the end of the day, 433 cans of soup were collected and donated to the St. James Catholic Church food pantry in Woodbridge. (Photo courtesy of Union Catholic)
