BERKELEY HEIGHTS — Runnells Specialized Hospital of Union County in Berkeley Heights is seeking new members for its junior volunteer program.
Throughout the year, junior volunteer opportunities for those at least 14 years old include teaching patients and residents to use computers; escorting them to Sunday services and occupational or physical therapy; assisting residents to complete ceramics projects; playing interactive games like bingo with residents and serving refreshments.
Volunteering can be beneficial to teens who are exploring career opportunities and planning on college. Time spent as a junior volunteer at Runnells gives students the chance to observe several professions in the healthcare field, and, of course, it’s an important part of a college application.
“By becoming a junior volunteer at Runnells Specialized Hospital of Union County you can make a difference in the lives of the residents and patients there and get a glimpse of various healthcare professions,” explains Union County Freeholder Vernell Wright of the Township of Union, Runnells liaison. “Let me encourage both individuals and youth groups to become junior volunteers at Runnells for single occasions or for regular volunteer work.”
Volunteer hours are flexible. Anyone who would like further information should call the Office of Volunteer Services at 1-908-771-5847.
