Union County College Basketball Teams Both Secure Wins

UNION COUNTY – Union County College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams both earned victories on Saturday.

Lady Owls Defeat Del Tech
On Saturday, Jan. 28, the Lady Owls traveled to Del Tech and achieved their 16th win of the season by a score of 69-45. The Lady Owls had a three-point lead at halftime 30-27. Brittany Baker scored 23 points, had 13 rebounds, and 4 assists. Quinna Trawick scored 17 points, had 9 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals. Shanique Owens added 14 points. The Lady Owls are now 16-4 overall and are 12-1 in the Region. They will travel to Essex County College on Tuesday, Jan. 31, for a 5 p.m. game.
Men’s Basketball Team Wins By A Hair
On Saturday, Jan. 28, the Men’s Basketball Team battled to the finish to defeat Cumberland County College by a score of 80-79. After the Owls erased a 12-point deficit to take the lead, the two teams fought it out until the end. Shaque Mitchell had 24 points and 8 rebounds. Abner Thelism scored 17 points and had 11 rebounds. Claude Louis scored 13 points, had 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. The Owls improved to 10-13 overall and have won five of their last six games. They will host Camden County College on Feb. 2, at 7 p.m.
