RAHWAY — Rahway High School’s chapter of Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica hosted an initiation of new members and an open Latin dinner dance on Thursday, Jan. 19. Students had an opportunity to sample a variety of delicious Latin dishes and dance many traditional Latin dances.

Certificates of membership were presented to new members being inducted into the society during a candlelight ceremony: Rosa Castano, Emily Tavarez, Jessica Rengifo, Luis Fernandez, Sherley Rios, Luke DeMarco, Brandon Gomboa, and Lakwan Anderson.

To be initiated, students must have maintained an honor average in the study of Spanish or Portuguese for a minimum of three semesters. The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH) is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and/or Portuguese, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP), formally organized in 1953. At present there are over 2,000 national and international chapters.
