Victory Bridge Jumper Stopped

PERTH AMBOY – A Perth Amboy man helped police stop a 31-year-old city resident who attempted to jump from the Victory Bridge last night, authorities said.

Ronald Snipes saw a man climb over the bridge railing to get to the outside ledge of the Victory Bridge at approximately 7:21 p.m. Snipes pulled over and got out of his vehicle to grab the man as he attempted to jump. Snipes held onto him as he dangled from the bridge until police arrived.

Six Perth Amboy police officers – M. Bucior, J. Marcinko, M. Lopez, P. Medina, R. Velasquez and J. Rosario – assisted Snipes and through a combined effort they were able to lift the man back over the bridge railing to save his life.

The man who attempted to jump from the bridge was taken to the Raritan Bay Medical Center – Perth Amboy Division.
