RAHWAY — Rahway Middle School students in Ms. Jonas’ classes recently explored the world of a great American author, Edgar Allan Poe.

As part of a literacy center, the eighth grade students had to examine the elements of plot, paying particular attention to the climax, falling action, and resolution of a short story. In assigned groups, students had to reenact the climax, falling action, and resolution of “The Tell-Tale Heart.” Students in each group had to create the dialogue that would be used, assign character roles, and bring in any props that would help to enhance their reenactments. At the end of this unit on Edgar Allan Poe, students expressed how valuable it was to really dissect a piece of literature in order to enjoy the true essence of a story. Students enjoyed being creative with the reenactment, and they are looking forward to more of these learning activities in the future.
