BASKING RIDGE – The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonder and the beauty of nature as winter arrives in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

Star Struck
Tuesday, January 17 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
Children ages infant to 5 with a parent will learn about the impact of the
stars on people through games and crafts.
Fee is $10 per pair and $5 per additional child.

Let it Snow
Thursday, January 19 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:30 P.M.
Children ages 4 to 6 will discover the wonders of frozen water by
examining the different structures that make up snow.
Fee is $9 per person.

Chain Reaction
Thursday, January 19 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:30 P.M.
Children ages 7 to 9 will learn about the producers, the consumers, and the
decomposers that make up the food chain.

Story Hour
Saturday, January 21 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
Children ages infant to 5 with a parent will listen to a Naturalist read an
environmentally-based story and enjoy a short walk on the trails of
the EEC.

The Green Team
Saturday, January 21 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Children ages 12 to 15 who have to fulfill a community service
requirement for school will enjoy the educational and fun activities
at the Environmental Education Center.

FAMILY & ADULT PROGRAMS

HELP!
Sunday, January 22 from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.
Environmental Education Center Naturalists need help from adult
volunteers with a variety of endeavors including gardening,
assistance with preparation for programs and special events, sign
making and more.
The program is free.

Coyote Cries – NEW!
Sunday, January 22 from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M.
Family and friends will join a Naturalist for a presentation that will sort
the myths from the facts about coyotes, education that is important
to people living in New Jersey.
The program is free.
Preregistration is required and may be accomplished online at

Blue “BOBO (Buy One – Bring One) Fridays” bins now are located at the Environmental Education Center and Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge, as well as at the Somerset County Park Commission headquarters at North Branch Park in Bridgewater. The public is invited to drop off canned food or personal-care items for donation to Somerset County food banks.
