Perth Amboy Pedestrian Killed In Car Accident

PERTH AMBOY – A 63-year-old Perth Amboy pedestrian was struck and killed in a motor vehicle accident on Saturday night in the area of Pfeiffer Boulevard and Columbus Drive, police said.

Gabino Jerez-Batista was fatally struck by a 1995 Ford Thunderbird driven by a 72-year-old Edison man at approximately 9:16 p.m. Police Officer David Formeza, the first on scene, immediately radioed for medics after checking the victim. Jerez-Batista was pronounced dead at Raritan Bay Medical Center’s Perth Amboy Division at 9:30 p.m., authorities said.

According to police, the accident victim was observed in the center of the roadway where he was nearly hit by another vehicle just prior to being hit by the Ford Thunderbird, which was traveling westbound in the right lane on Pfeiffer Boulevard.

The case is being investigated by Detective Stephen Petrosino of the Perth Amboy Police Department. Authorities are asking anyone with information to call 1-732-324-3832.

No charges have been filed at this time, police said.
