“Occupy The Courts” Protests Planned For Friday

January 16, 2012

STATE – The Coffee Party, a non-partisan democracy movement to fight corruption and restore self-governance to the people, is calling on Americans to “Occupy the Courts” in protest of the Citizens United ruling that allows corporations to engage in virtually unrestricted spending to influence elections.

More than 80 rallies are planned for Friday, Jan. 20, in front of the U.S. Supreme Court building in Washington D.C. and other federal courts throughout the country. The rallies will launch grassroots campaigns for ballot initiatives and resolutions rejecting the Citizens United decision.

The Citizens United ruling held that corporations should legally be considered persons and that the First Amendment prevents the government from placing limits on their spending for political purposes.
