SOMERVILLE – A 20-year-old Roselle man who has been charged with the New Year’s Eve murder of a Texas man at a Franklin Township hotel surrendered to detectives assigned to the Somerset County Prosecutors Office Major Crimes Squad yesterday afternoon, authorities announced today.
Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano said that on Jan. 5, a warrant complaint was issued in Superior Court charging Shaquan Johnson, also known as “YQ,” with the murder of Chad Everette Robertson, 30, a resident of Shoreacres, Texas and the father of five children.
Johnson, who Soriano identified as a member of the Grape Street 103 Crips street gang, was lodged in the Somerset County Jail with bail set by Judge Paul W. Armstrong at $500,000 cash only.
According to Soriano, the United States Marshal’s Service, New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force assisted detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and the Franklin Township Police Department in the search for Johnson.
Johnson, like all criminal defendants, is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
