RAHWAY – Dain Blanton, gold medallist in men’s beach volleyball at the 2000 Olympics, will speak to students at Rahway High School on Friday, Feb. 17.
Specifically designed to empower youth to achieve their full potential, Blanton’s presentation will demonstrate how a vision, when combined with energy and perseverance, leads to success. Blanton will also emphasize how his own dedication to education helped him launch a volleyball career at Pepperdine University that would lead to Olympic gold, and prepared him for a fulfilling career in sports broadcasting once his touring days began to wind down.
Not only did Blanton win the gold medal at the Olympics in Sydney, but he had also become the first African-American in the history of beach volleyball to win any major title in 1997. The Los Angeles-based athlete can currently be seen covering events for the NBA (LA Clippers), MLB (Dodgers, Angels), and NCAA basketball and football (USC, UCLA), as well as volleyball (AVP, FIVB, NCAA).
