CLARK — Daisy Troop 425 had no idea why they were asked to wear their favorite crowns to their monthly meeting on Jan. 9. Troop leaders Alicia Scipioni, Kelli Kaminskas and Jackie Skwirut wanted their special guest to be a surprise.

Mrs. New Jersey 2011, Catherine Zalewski, visited the Clark Daisy Troop to talk to the girls about eating healthy, exercising everyday and being courageous by trying new foods. Zalewski is a fitness enthusiast who loves to stay healthy by dancing, working out and participating in competitions. She led the girls in an aerobic dance routine to get them excited about exercise.

Scipioni thanked her colleague and friend, Valerie Blanchard, former Mrs. Union County 2009 and owner of Paradise Bikini Inc. who helped arrange for Mrs. New Jersey to speak to the Daisy Troop so that they could earn their Courageous and Strong Achievement Badge, which is otherwise known as a “Petal”.

“What a great experience!” said fellow troop leader Kelli Kaminskas.
