TRENTON — The expanded website services of the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development is offering easier and faster service for people who use the Internet, rather than a telephone, to file and certify for Unemployment Insurance benefits.

As the department temporarily expands Call Center hours this month to handle an inordinate number of customer calls, Unemployment Insurance recipients who use the Department website to file and recertify their claims are receiving benefit payments faster. Internet customers also are being given another new advantage called the “Web Inquiry” feature.

The added service provides Unemployment Insurance claimants with an ability to view and print their last benefit payment, claim balance and year-to-date tax information which previously was available only from a claims representative. Now, there is no waiting. Simply click the red Unemployment Benefits button on the Department website or log on directly at: http://www.njuifile.net

Sunday website service is also available, enabling customers certifying for benefits via the Internet to have their claim processed sooner than customers trying to reach claims representatives by telephone. It means the electronic transfer of benefits to a claimant’s direct deposit or debit card accounts will occur a day earlier than if they telephoned state Call Centers.

When people use the Internet to file their Unemployment Insurance certifications, which is required every two weeks for people collecting benefits, the department is able to free more call agents to respond faster to cases requiring special attention. Delays in reaching Call Centers this month, due to a large volume of callers, prompted the department to temporarily expand Call Center hours to Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. through 12:00 p.m.

Statistically, when people use the website to certify unemployment insurance benefits, only four percent of those claims require agent intervention. The website certification system also provides claimants with a printable screen at the end of the certification process that offers certification confirmation, payment information, claim balances, Federal Income Tax (FIT) withholding information and special messages.
