Plainfield Man Pleads Guilty To 2011 Homicide

PLAINFIELD — A Plainfield man pleaded guilty to a January 2011 homicide, Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow announced today.

Pablo Garcia Ortiz, 50, pleaded guilty to the Jan. 17, 2011 stabbing death of 19-year-old Jose Feliciano Garcia Toj, said Assistant Prosecutor Julie A. Peterman, who prosecuted the case.

According to an investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force and the Plainfield Police Department, Ortiz murdered Garcia Toj, a native of Guatemala, in a basement apartment at 318 E. Front Street, in Plainfield. It is believed that the men, who shared the apartment, had argued before Ortiz fatally stabbed Garcia Toj.

Ortiz was arrested several days later in the hamlet of Dover Plains, N.Y. The arrest were made with assistance from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Department, said Peterman. The case was handled by Detective Kevin Grimmer of the Union County Homicide Task Force.

Ortiz will be sentenced to 20 years in State Prison on March 16, 2012 before Judge Scott J. Moynihan.
